Welcome to Coowonga State School.
At Coowonga State School, our vision, 'Learn for Life', underpins our commitment to high-quality teaching and learning, student wellbeing and continuous improvement. As a small rural school, we pride ourselves on knowing every student well and using this knowledge to design learning that supports success for all learners.
Teaching and learning at Coowonga State School is guided by explicit instruction, evidence-based practices and high expectations. Curriculum is delivered through integrated units of work aligned with the Australian Curriculum, supporting students to develop deep understanding and transferable skills across learning areas.
A consistent, school-wide focus on literacy is a key priority. We implement a structured approach to reading, including the use of decodable texts and systematic teaching of foundational skills, to ensure all students build strong reading and writing capabilities. Targeted intervention and differentiation are used to respond to individual student needs, enabling both support and extension where required.
Our small school context allows for highly personalised learning and ongoing monitoring of student progress. Teachers use data to inform planning, intervention and feedback, ensuring learning experiences are adjusted to meet the diverse academic and developmental needs of our students.
Student wellbeing and engagement are central to our work. We explicitly teach social skills and maintain clear, consistent behaviour expectations, creating a safe, inclusive and respectful learning environment where students are supported to self-regulate and make positive choices.
Strong partnerships with families and the wider community are valued and actively fostered. Together, we work to ensure every student at Coowonga State School is supported to achieve their full potential and develop the skills they need to truly learn for life.
I look forward to working closely with you and welcoming you into our school community.
